Aftertaste is a science fiction performance and video installation in which the body becomes unformed, unorganized, disjointed—composed of infinite particles of information, creating an impression of a constant return. It may be seen as a map of madness, a performance with no beginning and no end, where the body constantly returns to zero—and beyond. Information travels at multiple speeds, forward and backward, through the bodies and the sound machines. To truly see the world, we may first need to stop it.
Two dancers are asked to fully depersonalize, working with dissociation of meaning to create an alternate reality governed by random rules. A third performer creates a different virtual space using a video camera, a wireless transmitter, and a projection surface. The soundtrack is generated live using sound machines as looping and sampling stations.
